Hottest Wedding Trends for 2010 – Cinematic Wedding Videos

As technologies are evolving that means wedding videos are evolving too!  Say good bye to regular videography and say hello to cinematography wedding videos!

I remember the good old days where the photographers will provide a videographer to capture every single second of the wedding using a nice video camera. But nowadays, more and more people are switching over to cinematic. It creates a very dramatic video. It’s like your wedding has become a movie trailer. It’s quite unique.. quite moving. Whenever I see a cinematic wedding video it gives me this tingly feeling – perhaps the climax of the song that they match up with the shots. Or the camera panning across the room, the aisle, etc.

Cinematic wedding videos are more expensive and it takes longer time to deliver the final product. So if you have the patient and the money this is for you. But if you want to watch your video right away, then just stick to the regular videography.

2010 Wedding Trends – Bridal Gowns

Although the traditional white wedding gowns are still in, many brides are starting to add their own flavor,  touch, or personality as you call it.  It is going to be an exciting year for brides of 2010. As we will be seeing more layerings! more ruffles! more dramatic! And one thing for sure: ballgowns are back [w/ a modern twist, of course..i'm seeing TULLE]!!

1. Florals- more and more wedding gowns are embellished with florals on the dress, train, and / or the veil. The detailing of these gowns make the dress so gorgeous and feminine. I heard amazing dresses by Melissa Sweet and I really wanted to share with you her work  so I searched and found some of her dresses from whowhatweddings.com.

2. Tulle – this style will be popular for Spring 2010. Not only will you find tulle in full ball gown skirts, they will be used for patterns / texture, or you’ll see them in little bunches at the waist or  necklines.

3. Short and Sweet – i think one of the hottest wedding trends is wearing a short wedding dress. This type of dress is perfect for the fun and trendy brides. I’ve also seen brides changed into this style of short wedding dress during the reception to dance the night away.

4. Asymmetrical / One Shoulder Gowns – this has been a trend for 2009 but I think it will rollover to 2010.  The classic strapless wedding gowns will always be around and will always look good, but there’s something about one shoulder gowns that makes it more elegant,  in my opinion.

Hottest Wedding Trends for 2010 – Wedding Favors

Wedding favors are not just souvenirs to remember the couples’ wedding date, but rather a Thank you from the wedding couple for attending and to take part of their special day.

I hear it many times, “Is it necessary to have wedding favors?” I’m going to say no, it’s not necessary and wedding favors is one of those items that can be easily eliminated from your wedding to do list. Chances are the wedding favors will get left behind on the table or even get thrown away. So if you’re on a tight budget, you can eliminate it.

Wedding FavorsBut if you choose to keep “wedding favors” on your wedding list, try to get something that’s edible or useful. For example, I went to my cousin’s wedding; they gave out chopsticks – Useful. Another wedding I attended, they gave out an ornament type of thing with a winding music box to each guest – not so useful; i mean what am I going to do with it? My family and I each got one, so we have 4 in our house…just sitting there. And then there are the popular ones, chocolates – it’s just eh; nothing special. And believe me, I saw a lot of lonely chocolates still sitting on the table as I was leaving the reception for the night.


If you want to have wedding favors for our guests but don’t want to spend too much money – that’s okay! Wedding favors doesn’t need to be expensive nor does it have to be for each individual guest. Nowadays, I’m seeing more and more self-serve candies (aka “Candy or Sweet Bar”) wedding favors. I think this is an absolute great idea. Choose a few of your favorite candies and set them up on a table. Have individual bags ready so your guests can self serve and take it back home. The reason I like this idea is because, even if there are leftovers, it’s okay because the candies you selected are the ones you like to eat anyway, so in the end it’s not a waste. Guests are happy because of the cute arrangements and they have their options to take home the favors or not. So it’s a win-win situation for both the guests and the wedding couple. I’m also seeing more and more DIY wedding favors – it’s cheaper and it is truly a gift that express love and appreciation since it’s homemade!

For my future wedding, I think I will definitely have some sort of buffet whether it’d be candies, cookies, or whatever that will remind TBD.

Hottest Wedding Trends for 2010 – Cakes

The old traditional cake – white, tiered, with or without flowers decorated in between the tiers, or just any simple decoration with figurines on the top tier. Well say good bye to those cakes because it cupcake time! Remember those years when we see Starbucks popping at every corner of the streets and then yogurt places popping everywhere during the past recent year! And now CUPCAKES! We got Sprinkles or Susie Cakes in Los Angeles, CA; Magnolia Bakery in New York, NY;  Dots in Pasadena, CA, just to name a few. I’m sure you can think of a few places within your area.

Well nowadays, wedding cupcakes are becoming more popular. Just last month, I’ve attended my friend’s wedding. She had a wedding cupcakes with the top tier as a single cake for the couple to do the cutting cake ceremony. It looked like all the cupcakes were the same flavor, but to my surprise they were different! I really like this idea because everyone gets a cupcake; you don’t have to worry about cutting the cake into equal slices or worrying if you’ll have enough or too much.

Here’s a picture of my friend’s wedding cupcake. Even though it’s not the traditional tiered cake, this wedding cupcake is fun and at the same time the color brings out an elegance to it.  (haha i’m not professional photographer, so please excuse my picture quality)

Thanks to Food Network and TLC’s shows like “Ace of Cakes” and “Cake Boss,” respectively, novelty cakes are becoming a trend too!  These cakes usually represent the bride and groom’s personality or reflect their interests.

Here’s more of a whimsical cake that I stumbled upon on flickr user, PinkCakeBox’s photostream…Though I find these cakes adorable and fun, however I personally find these whimsical cakes more informal – they look more for like birthday cakes. But hey, if this is what you want, then this is what you shall get – it is YOUR wedding!

Hottest Wedding Trends for 2010 – Bridesmaids Dresses

As we are ringing in 2010, I want to share with you what I think are the upcoming trends are for year 2010. Sure the economy isn’t going to go back up instantly, and we all know everyone’s in a tight budget. So I foresee a lot of unique and creativities of the weddings from the bride and groom.

Because there are just way too many topics to talk and share about, so instead of throwing all the topics into one post, I’m going to separate it. And feel free to leave comments because I also want to hear your thoughts!!

Bridesmaid Dresses

The Traditional: same style and color for all bridesmaid, this will never go out of style.

But I think a new trend is starting, if you happen to be the type of bride who just wants fun and don’t want the whole matchy matchy type of tradition, I have noticed some brides will choose a color and then tell her bridesmaids to go get a dress in that color or similar shade. this way, the bridesmaids are happy that they can wear what they want to wear and be comfortable in it, and the bride is happy because it takes another trouble off of her wedding list. Do keep in mind that if you decide to go with this style, as a bride, you better make sure your bridesmaids are getting the appropriate dress; after all you don’t want one bridesmaid to be wearing a dress that’s mid-thigh length and then another an evening long gown – try to stay within the theme and same hem line.
